There is much to say about this chalice, to say this form is challenging would be an understatement. To create a slip cast piece this large I need to leave it in the mold for 4-5 days. Then there is taking it out of the mold without damaging it, this takes 2 people. The last step before firing it was creating a saggar large enough to hold it and all the combustibles. There were 4 attempts at this form before I figured all this out, this is the 2nd successful piece from this mold and the first one to be saggar fired.
The rock that it is mounted in was found around 2015 and has been waiting for the perfect piece. When I found this rock I was over the moon about its beauty, to me it makes me think of a seal and so I have always called it the seal rock.
