wanted to do next as far as glazing.

And now for something completely different… “Beached”. A concept has been rolling around in my mind for sometime, the thought of creating sculptures that would use the rock mounts in a way that would evoke the ocean’s perils. The main problem was, how would the rock serve to hold the sculpture? The thrown forms I create lend themselves naturally to this as they can be brought down to a small bottom that can easily slip into a mountings hole. A sculpture is quite different as there is no natural point to use, then my sister, @mclenan_angelika , found this amazing rock on one of our getaways. As soon as my eyes fell upon it two things happened, first I carefully examined the rock, turning it over and over again looking for a place that a mounting hole could be drilled, couldn’t find one. Part of the beauty of this rock are the holes, but everywhere I thought might work was too shallow, in that, when the hole was drilled it would break into the holes on the underside. Something kept niggling at me though and I brought the rock home with the thought that I might think of something. At home I remembered a broken piece that had been in my garden for years, I ran outside, found it, washed it off and lo and behold it slipped into a natural cradle in the rock. Needless to say, this is my new favourite. Clay, terra sigillata, multifired in oxidation, $8000.00, 58cm L, 34cm W. ❤️🦊
